A Seat at the Table – Supporting Vulnerable Families & Youths

About the campaign:

This fundraising event is part of the Great Singapore Give initiative.

We are raising S$100,000 to help vulnerable families and youths.

Everyone deserves a seat at the table – a place where they belong, where their needs matter, and where they have opportunities to grow.

Yet an unexpected job loss, illness or financial strain can leave families struggling with everyday expenses and young people facing barriers to education and opportunity.

This November, help Bless Community Services support our neighbours through three community programs we run for these families and youths:
Neighbourhood Assistance Fund (NAF) – provides emergency and short-term financial assistance and food support to individuals and families in Serangoon/Hougang who are facing unexpected hardship.
BCS Bursaries – supports students aged 13-19 years from lower-income households in Serangoon/Hougang, helping to ease financial pressures and support their educational journey.
GRIT youth development programme – a neighbourhood-based youth development community, where young people aged 13–25 years can build positive relationships, grow in confidence and purpose, and contribute to their community.

When help comes at the right time Mr Ho, 61*, lost his job while caring for his three sons. Although he later found work, getting back on his feet took time. “NAF financial assistance helped me tide through a difficult period while I applied for longer-term support such as ComCare. Knowing that my children’s meals and groceries were taken care of gave me peace of mind while I worked to provide for my family. What touched me most was how the BCS team treated me with respect and dignity.”

For Norsidah*, a sudden struggle with depression and anxiety meant that her husband had to stop working temporarily to care for her. Financial assistance and grocery vouchers helped the family manage food and essential expenses during a difficult period. “NAF gave me and my family hope during a difficult time. It reminded me that when we are facing hardship, there is someone out there who cares and is willing to help.”

For Natasha*, receiving a BCS bursary helped her family with their everyday needs such as food and transportation. Through volunteering opportunities with the GRIT programme, she also found a community where she felt accepted, valued and gained the confidence to speak up, learn from her mistakes and become a better version of herself. “Through volunteering, I found a place where I could truly be myself. I felt accepted, valued and encouraged to grow without fear of being judged. Volunteering also taught me how meaningful and joyful to serve others. Even the smallest acts of kindness can make a difference, seeing the smiles on their faces makes every effort worthwhile.”

Your gift can make a difference Your donation will go towards supporting practical assistance for neighbours facing hardship, bursaries for students from lower-income households, and opportunities for young people to develop resilience and self-esteem through GRIT.
